Ishiguro: yes yes yes

Filled with delight that Kazuo Ishiguro has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Nobody could have deserved it more. But I suppose I’m prejudiced: it’s just that for me, as a writer, his best books – including Artist of the Floating World, The Remains of the Day, and Never Let Me Go – are in a special category, those rare works that fill one with a perfect blend of envy, astonishment, and delight. “Ah. So that’s what real writing is like.” You know you’ll never do anything remotely as good, and it’s thrilling.
